Why I Offer One-on-One Photography Mentorship

Some photographers come to mentorship because they feel stuck.

Others come because they’re just beginning and don’t know where to start.

Both are welcome here.

I didn’t create one-on-one mentorship as a product or a program. I created it because, again and again, photographers found themselves asking the same thing in different ways:

Can you show me how you see?

Can you help me slow this down?

Can you meet me where I’m at without making me feel behind?

And the answer was always yes.

There Is No “Right” Starting Point

I’ve mentored photographers who:

  • had never used manual mode
  • didn’t know what presets were or how editing worked
  • felt intimidated asking “basic” questions
  • had strong instincts but lacked technical confidence
  • were creatively capable but unsure how to refine their voice

There is no hierarchy in this space.

You don’t need a certain level of experience to work with me. You don’t need to have it “figured out.” You don’t need to justify where you are.

We start exactly there.

How I Approach Mentorship

My mentorships are intuitive, collaborative, and unhurried.

They aren’t about giving you a formula or replicating my work. They’re about helping you understand why something works- and how to apply that understanding in a way that feels true to you.

Depending on where you’re at, our time together may include:

  • camera settings and understanding light in real time
  • shooting with intention instead of rushing for “more”
  • learning how to guide subjects with confidence and ease
  • understanding composition, angles, and movement
  • editing workflows and developing your eye
  • creative direction, self-trust, and finding your voice
  • asking the questions you’ve been holding back

There is space to learn, to experiment, and to pause.

No pressure. No performance.

In-Person and Virtual Mentorships

I offer mentorship both in person and over Zoom, depending on what feels most supportive for you.

In-person shooting mentorships allow us to work through light, connection, and camera settings as they happen- side by side. I’ll guide when needed, step back when appropriate, and help you see what you might otherwise miss.

Virtual mentorships offer clarity, foundation, and confidence. These sessions are especially supportive for photographers who want to understand their camera, editing, creative direction, or overall approach without feeling overwhelmed.

Both formats are rooted in the same intention:

to help you feel grounded, capable, and more at home in your work.

What This Mentorship Is (and Isn’t)

This mentorship is:

  • supportive, not prescriptive
  • educational, not gatekept
  • spacious, not rushed
  • responsive to you, not a template

It isn’t:

  • a one-size-fits-all curriculum
  • a promise of overnight success
  • a rigid coaching container

I believe learning happens best when curiosity is met with patience- and when growth isn’t treated as something to earn.

A Quiet Invitation

I don’t openly promote mentorship sessions, and I don’t run them on a fixed schedule. I offer them intentionally, when I have the space to give them my full attention.

If you feel drawn to learning in this way- if something in this resonates- you’re welcome to reach out and share where you’re at. We’ll decide together what kind of support makes the most sense.

You don’t need to be ready.

You just need to be honest about where you are

BEHIND THE LENS

Hi, I'm  Brandi.

B for short. I'm a wedding and portrait photographer based in St. Augustine, Florida. My work is rooted in intentional storytelling with an editorial approach- blending direction with honest, unscripted moments. I photograph couples and individuals who want imagery that feels soulful, artful, and true to who they are.

St. Augustine already feels like a film set., it offers the kind of atmosphere that makes date-night engagement photos feel cinematic- the texture, the historic streets, the warm evening lights, the hidden corners- it’s a city made for movement, mood, and connection. And that’s exactly why date-night engagement sessions photograph so beautifully here. Instead of […]

Let me guess – you’ve already said it at least once. “We’re not really photo people.” Or: “I have no idea what to do with my hands.” Or the classic: “I just don’t photograph well.” I hear some version of this from almost every couple before their engagement session. And here’s what I know after […]

There’s a parking lot in downtown St. Augustine that I’m a little obsessed with. It’s overgrown. There’s a metal gate falling off its hinges. It’s not scenic in any traditional sense – no Spanish moss, no cobblestone, no waterfront view. But when I brought a couple there at dusk after riding their motorcycle through downtown, […]

There’s a myth floating around Pinterest and wedding blogs that the best engagement photos just… happen. That the photographer hangs back, the couple acts natural, and magic appears. That posing is somehow artificial. That direction gets in the way of authenticity. I’d like to respectfully disagree. I pose my couples. Intentionally. Deliberately. Sometimes heavily. And […]
