Embodiment

What Is an Embodiment Session?

An embodiment session isn’t something you step into on a whim.

It’s something you arrive at.

Often quietly. Often after a long season of holding it together. Often without having the words for why you want it- only the feeling that something inside you is asking to be met.

This experience isn’t about becoming someone new.

It’s about returning to yourself.

How I approach embodiment photography

I don’t approach embodiment sessions like photoshoots. I approach them like conversations- ones that begin long before the camera ever comes out.

Before we choose a location, wardrobe, or mood, I want to understand you:

  • where you are in your life
  • how you’ve been feeling in your body
  • what you’re craving more of (softness, wildness, stillness, release)
  • how you want to feel when you look back at these images years from now

Some women want quiet and grounding. Some want movement, intensity, edge. Some want both.

There is no preset formula- because embodiment doesn’t look the same on anyone.

My role is not to impose a vision onto you, but to create a container where your own truth can surface naturally.

Preparation is part of the experience

An embodiment session begins well before the session day.

Preparation isn’t about perfection- it’s about intention.

We talk through:

  • the energy you want to bring into the space
  • the environment that feels most supportive (studio, home, outdoors, night, daylight)
  • how much guidance you want versus how much space you want
  • boundaries, comfort levels, and pacing

This collaborative process allows you to arrive feeling grounded, not rushed or uncertain.

By the time we begin shooting, you’re not wondering what to do.

You’re already present.

Meeting you exactly where you are

Some sessions are slow and tender. Others are expressive and untamed. Some unfold in stillness. Some move through release.

There is no expectation for you to open up, perform, or “be brave.”

You are met exactly where you are that day- emotionally, physically, energetically.

If you feel reserved, that’s honored.

If you feel expansive, that’s welcomed.

If you change throughout the session, that’s part of the process.

Embodiment isn’t about forcing a feeling.

It’s about allowing what’s already there to move through you.

This way of approaching embodiment is rooted in the same philosophy I explore more deeply when I talk about what it really means to feel ready– not just for a session, but in your body.

The body as art- not an object

Embodiment photography is not traditional boudoir.

There is no focus on posing for approval, performing sensuality, or presenting the body as something to be consumed.

Instead, the body is treated as art:

  • textured
  • expressive
  • powerful in its honesty

Every curve, line, scar, softness, and strength is approached with reverence- not correction.

This isn’t about looking desirable.

It’s about being true.

What the session itself feels like

The pace is intentional.

There is space to breathe.

Space to pause.

Space to feel.

I guide gently when needed, but I also know when to step back and let moments unfold naturally.

There is no rush to “get the shot.”

The images come from presence- not pressure.

Often, the most powerful moments happen when you forget the camera is there at all.

What women take with them afterward

The images matter- deeply.

But what stays with most women isn’t just what they see in the photographs.

It’s what they felt in their body during the experience.

A sense of being unbraced.

Of being witnessed without expectation.

Of remembering what it feels like to exist without performing.

That memory has a way of resurfacing later- in moments when you need it most.

This is why embodiment sessions tend to ripple outward long after the session ends.

A return to self

An embodiment session doesn’t promise transformation.

What it offers is something quieter and more lasting:

a return.

To presence.

To honesty.

To the body as home.

And once you experience that, your body remembers the way back.

This is the foundation of my embodiment sessions– an experience designed to meet you exactly where you are and allow you to return to yourself without pressure or performance.

BEHIND THE LENS

Hi, I'm  Brandi.

B for short. I'm a wedding and portrait photographer based in St. Augustine, Florida. My work is rooted in intentional storytelling with an editorial approach- blending direction with honest, unscripted moments. I photograph couples and individuals who want imagery that feels soulful, artful, and true to who they are.

St. Augustine already feels like a film set., it offers the kind of atmosphere that makes date-night engagement photos feel cinematic- the texture, the historic streets, the warm evening lights, the hidden corners- it’s a city made for movement, mood, and connection. And that’s exactly why date-night engagement sessions photograph so beautifully here. Instead of […]

Let me guess – you’ve already said it at least once. “We’re not really photo people.” Or: “I have no idea what to do with my hands.” Or the classic: “I just don’t photograph well.” I hear some version of this from almost every couple before their engagement session. And here’s what I know after […]

There’s a parking lot in downtown St. Augustine that I’m a little obsessed with. It’s overgrown. There’s a metal gate falling off its hinges. It’s not scenic in any traditional sense – no Spanish moss, no cobblestone, no waterfront view. But when I brought a couple there at dusk after riding their motorcycle through downtown, […]

There’s a myth floating around Pinterest and wedding blogs that the best engagement photos just… happen. That the photographer hangs back, the couple acts natural, and magic appears. That posing is somehow artificial. That direction gets in the way of authenticity. I’d like to respectfully disagree. I pose my couples. Intentionally. Deliberately. Sometimes heavily. And […]
